To provide quality youth, teen, and adult programming consistent with the guidelines set forth by the Y of the USA (YMCA SuperSports); to impact each member’s experience within our building and enhance the community as a whole; and to host a recreational atmosphere consistent with the Mission and Values of the YMCA.

Sports Department Notes

All Sports Programs are co-ed.  Please check the Gym Schedule for Open Sport Nights which include regular badminton, volleyball and basketball.  Gym Schedules are posted on the bulletin boards in the gym, and copies are available at the Member Service desk.  Please remember to bring your Membership Card to the YMCA!  Your card is required to check out equipment from the Gym Office or Member Service desk.  Registration for all of the following programs is required at the Member Service desk unless otherwise noted.

KinderPrograms

 

KinderSports are designed to teach basic sports skills and develop hand-eye coordination through activities that promote cooperation, teamwork, and sportsmanship.  The goal of each class is to begin a natural progression in sport-specific areas for our participants so they may grow as athletes and in life while having fun! 

Space is limited so please register early!

 

Short Sports (Parent/Child Ages 2-3)

Mondays OR Fridays

9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Sessions Offered:  Winter, Spring I, Spring II

An introduction to our KinderSports, Short Sports allows you and your child to try a little bit of everything!  Participants will experience a variety of sport-related games and activities in a small group setting in the gym.

$22 Members/per child

 

KinderBasketball I (Ages 3-5)

Mondays OR Thursdays

11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. – Mondays

2:15 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Thursdays

Sessions Offered:  Winter, Spring I, Spring II

KinderBasketball I is for children with little to no basketball experience.  We will introduce the basic fundamentals of dribbling, passing, shooting, and the concept of a “team” in a fun and supportive environment.

$22 Members/per child

 

KinderSoccer I (Ages 3-5)

Tuesdays & Thursdays

9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.

Sessions Offered:  Winter, Spring I, Spring II

KinderSoccer I is for participants with little or no soccer experience.  Children will enjoy learning dribbling, passing, and shooting fundamentals through age-appropriate games and small match-like scenarios.

$44 Members/per child

 

KinderSoccer I – One Day Option! (Ages 3-5)

Mondays OR Tuesdays OR Wednesdays

12:15 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. - Mondays

10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. – Tuesdays

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – Wednesdays

Sessions Offered:  Winter, Spring I, Spring II

This class is for participants who would like to try KinderSoccer and are interested in attending class once-per-week.  The same principles, activities and fundamentals will be taught.

KinderTennis I (Ages 3-5)

Tuesdays OR Fridays

10:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Tuesdays

11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. - Fridays

Sessions Offered: Winter, Spring I, Spring II

KinderTennis I takes the fundamentals of tennis strokes and incorporates them into a class where fun and sportsmanship are emphasized.  Introductions to tennis movement, balance, awareness and skill drills will be taught.

$22 Members/per child

 

Sports of All Sorts (Ages 3-5)

Mondays OR Tuesdays

10:15 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – Mondays

1:45 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Tuesdays

Sessions Offered:  Winter, Spring I, Spring II

This program will focus on the fun aspects of sports!  Players will participate in cooperative games and learn skills related to several sports, while incorporating the basic concepts of group work and being on a team.

KinderTrio (Ages 3-5)

Wednesdays OR Thursdays

1:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. – Wednesdays

10:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Thursdays

Sessions Offered:  Winter, Spring I, Spring II

Your child will experience basketball, baseball and soccer in this Kinder “combo” class.  Team concepts and ideas will replace individual skill drills and the participants will be allowed to simply play the game!

$22 Members/per child

  

Tumbling Tots (Ages 3-5)

Wednesdays 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

Sessions Offered:  Winter, Spring I, Spring II

Tumbling Tots is a beginner class designed to introduce children to movement and flexibility through progressive tumbling and gymnastic activity.  A fun and safe environment is emphasized, where every child receives a positive experience.

$22 Members/per child

 

KinderBaseball (Ages 3-5)

Thursdays 12:15 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Sessions Offered:  Winter, Spring I, Spring IILearn the concepts and basic skills of baseball in this Tee Ball League atmosphere!  Hit, throw, catch and run while learning the “field of play” in our gym.

$22 Members/per child

 

KinderRunners (Ages 3-5)

Thursdays OR Fridays

10:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Thursdays

1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. – Fridays

Sessions Offered:  Winter, Spring I, Spring II

Participants will fly around the gym in this program designed for children who simply like to run!  Wewill teach technique through various games using cones, hurdles, and our YMCA KinderTrack!  Each class will include a time where the participants can run at will in a non-structured game where their energy takes over!

$22 Members/per child

 

Youth Programs

 

YMCA Youth Golf (Ages 6-8)

Mondays 6:15 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.

Sessions Offered:  Spring II

Your young golfers will swing each club in the bag during these one-hour practice sessions!  Participants will learn responsibility and self-motivation as they use the tips from our instructors to hone their skills in the gym.  This class is designed for beginner and intermediate youth golfers.

$22 Members/per child

 

NY Soccer Central Clinic (Ages 6-8)

Tuesdays 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Sessions Offered:  Winter, Spring I, Spring II

The clinic promotes learning and practicing the fundamentals of the game in an educational, fair, and safe environment.  Each player will be exposed to new skill drills, training methods, and will learn to work within a group to better themselves and their teammates.

YMCA Flag Football League (Ages 6-12)

NEW 6-Week Season

Saturdays, April 12-May 17

Games Begin at 10:00 a.m.

Coaches Meeting: April 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Registration Dates/Deadline: February 11-April 8

(Note:  All registration forms must be received by 5:00 p.m. on April 8.  Late registrations will not be accepted.)

Expose your child to a unique indoor flag football experience in the YMCA gym! Physical contact isprohibited as players are “down” when there flag is pulled.  There will be a practice session prior to each game for players to develop passing, receiving and defensive skills.  Game times are determined by the number of teams in the league.  All participants will receive a league t-shirt.

YMCA Member Team Volleyball League (Ages 18+)

Season III

Wednesdays, February 27-May7

Matches Begin at 6:00 p.m.

Open Programs

 

Open Sports nights are available to members regardless of age and ability unless otherwise noted.  A certain number of participants may be required to play an Open Sport based on the activities in the gymnasium on a given day.  Please see a Gym Attendant for equipment and court set-up.

 

Batting Cages (All Ages)

Wednesdays  6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Reservations are for 30 minute sessions during the specified times.  Please call 637-2025, ext. 232 to make an appointment.

 

Open Badminton (All Ages)

Tuesdays, 7:15 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

 

Open Volleyball (Ages 15+)

Sundays, 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Meets every Friday with the exception of the following dates (due to Family Programming in the gym):  January 18, February 15, February 29, March 14, May 2 and May 9.

Birthday Parties

 

Sports Parties (Ages 5-12)

The birthday child and their friends can now enjoy a Sports Party at the YMCA!  Parties are available for ages 5-12, and include an hour of sports instruction in the gym, and an hour in the private party room.  The sports activities offered vary based on the number of participants involved and their ages, and are arranged with the Sports Director during the booking of the party.  Weekend availability varies so please book early!  For more information contact Sarah Lufler, Sports Director, at 637-2025 (ext. 224).

$125 – maximum 20 children

Mini Artists & Athletes (Ages 3-6)

Session #1: June 16-19

Session #2: June 23-26

9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Create and recreate at the East Area Family YMCA for four action-packed days! What do you do when pre-school has ended and summer hasn't begun? Send your 3-6 year olds to the Y for their own mini-programs.

Mini Artists & Athletes will be held Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.at the East Area Family YMCA's Arts Studio and Gym. While in the Arts, children will explore a variety of art media and techniques, with projects including ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and more! When participants are not getting messy in the Arts Studio, they will be active in the Gym. Sports will include soccer, basketball, baseball, running and creatvie hand-eye coordination drills that will keep your children moving. Participants will spend half of their time in the gym and half of their time in the Arts Studio while stopping for a snack in-between each day. Parents are welcome to leave the building during the times of this program. Before & After Care are not available. Each child should bring a snack, water bottle and be dressed appropriately for both the Arts and Sports (including sneakers).

$70 Members; $85 Non-Members

Sports Camp

(Ages 8-12)

August 18-22 & August 25-29

9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Sports Camp explores various sports, games and activities for campers ages 8-12 in the East Area Family YMCA gymnasium. Campers will be challenged each day to try new things, as well as learning to work with others to accomplish individual and team goals. Camp includes themed days of sport-specific and skill-related activities, as well as large group games, swimming, and a field trip at the end of each week. $135 Members/Week; $165 Non-Members/Week

 

Program Refund Policy

*Refunds will be issued if notice is given within three **business days prior to the start date of the program. Once the program has started there will be no refunds issued.

* If there is a medical reason given for the member not attending the program, a refund will be issued if documentation is provided (i.e. physician’s note). 

* There is a $10 processing fee for refunds that are issued in the form of a check. If a program is cancelled by the YMCA the $10 processing fee will be waived.

* Processing refunds will take approximately 14 business days.

* The YMCA reserves the right to cancel a program that does not have the minimum enrollment. Programs cancelled by the YMCA will be refunded in full by check or as a program credit, based upon member’s preference. 

* All refund requests must be made through the director of the program. Please contact the appropriate program director to request the refund. If the program director is unavailable please complete a Refund Request Form at the front desk. .

 * Refunds may be requested as an account credit to be used towards any future YMCA      program, or as a check (a $10 processing fee will be deducted from amount.)
